Abstract

Human resource planning is conducted at the micro and macro-level and is concerned with the demand and supply of skilled manpower. The consequence of skill development is employability. Businesses enterprises from the public and private sector have supported the skill development program with financial commitment from corporate social responsibility and other statutory requirements. The absence of authenticated working models for evaluation of the outcome of skill development programs is to be bridged by this study. CSR is an initiative from business enterprises and through a public-private or public-public initiative to reach society. The skill gap problem is addressed by business enterprises through skill development programs. The quality and sustainability of the skill training programs in improving the socio-economic, confidence and employability is a measure of success. Hence this study is with focus on skill development in priority areas like construction, IT/ITES in selected districts of Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam (low skill deficit district with surplus manpower). The major objective is to measure the extent of employability of trained candidates by the public and private sector supported skill development institutes with Corporate Social Responsibility funds. The study is conducted in four skill development institutes sponsored by major corporate firms with 1241 samples. Employability is measured with index numbers and also subjected to rigors testing with regression, Tukey test and Anova. The post-training employability index is 56.045. The regression equation estimates that, in the absence of skill training the employability is 14.58546 and with training improved to 56.93046. But variations exist based on the type of Institute, nature of employability of the course and quality environment in the Institute.
